The cold snap did hit us last week, right on schedule. The snow hung back for a week and is now here. Yesterday I met up with someone at a coffee shop about 11 miles away. We caught up and talked for a bit, and I left when it started snowing and sticking. On my drive home, my car notified me that something (on the front of the car?) was blocked, and thus my threat mitigation features wouldn't work. I had no idea what it could be talking about, but the car still drove, so I just slowed down a little bit and paid attention and drove home. The Honda logo on the CRV's front grill was completely iced over. (I guess that's where the sensors are...obviously I need to read up on the manual.)

I am VERY glad that I got my fireplace cleaned and serviced. That's been providing a nice heat boost to the house while the outdoors transforms into a winter wonderland.

In other slightly scary news, my cat Amy may have mast cell cancer. I have an appointment for her in a month to get several of the nodules removed and get her organs checked for mast cells. My vet told me, and I've read online, that cats with mast cell cancer may live a decade more. For Amy, that would be age 19, which is a good run for a cat. I still intend to take her with me to Mexico. There's a veterinary college in Mexico City, and I'm initially going to live in the central highlands, so that college may be a possibility if she needs specialized treatments. I'll learn as much as I can, give her the best quality of life possible for as long as possible. She's one of my three void-babies.

Winter will be officially here next weekend, with the season's first snow. We're currently forecasted to get about 3 inches, which isn't as bad as other parts of the US are being hit with...but I'm still planning to go shopping, stock up, and minimize my driving after that point. People get crazy-stupid when the first snow hits, just like people in CA get crazy-stupid when the first serious rainfall hits and the roads change. It's not a free-for-all, it just slows driving a lot. I'd rather not deal with that.

I've started spring cleaning - not just cleaning the house, but downsizing. I have clothing that no longer fits, I have some books that I read once or twice and just didn't care for, I have boxes of old papers that I brought with me from my former house (eight years ago!!) and haven't looked at since, I have some old end tables (one of which isn't actually being used for anything). I need to get all of this stuff out. I'm planning on working on a room - each week. That'll keep things manageable, and I'll actually see progress.

Jeebus.

One year ago tomorrow I posted about the big long power outage and how fucking cold it got in my house. And this year, tonight, we're watching a weather system head at us with high winds. Again.

I gotta get my happy ass down south.
